From Waste to Resource: New Value Begins with Sorting

Last week, Hamburger Recycling Croatia welcomed more than 50 representatives from public institutions, industry associations and local authorities to our sorting facility in Sveta Helena, including guests from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, the City of Sveti Ivan Zelina and the Croatian Chamber of Economy.

The company’s operations were presented from different perspectives by our Hamburger Recycling Croatia colleagues: Managing Director Jadranko Tomašević, Purchase Manager Snježana Kekelj, Head of Commercial Dario Nekić, and Depot Manager Krunoslav Kralj.

Together, we discussed the realities of plastic packaging waste management, the opportunities and challenges of the yellow bag collection system, and the importance of investing in modern sorting infrastructure.

The highlight of the day was taking our guests behind the scenes to see how lightweight plastic packaging waste is sorted and prepared for a new life as a valuable resource.

As part of Prinzhorn Group, we have been turning waste into valuable resources for more than 170 years. In Croatia, our latest investment in the sorting facility and a new sorting facility is helping to increase material recovery, create local jobs, and strengthen the circular economy.

A big thank you to all guests, partners, and colleagues who joined us. Real progress towards a circular future is only possible when businesses, institutions, and communities work together.
