As part of a modernization project, the existing water-ring pumps in the vacuum system were replaced with energy-efficient turboblowers from Runtech.
This measure will reduce the site’s CO₂ emissions by approximately 559 metric tons per year. The electrical energy saved as a result is roughly equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 700 single-family homes.
Furthermore, thanks to this technological change, the addition of process water—which was previously required in large quantities by the water-ring vacuum pumps—is now completely eliminated.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the new plant technology also offers significant process-related improvements. Vacuum levels can now be controlled with much greater precision, thereby increasing the efficiency of the paper machine and sustainably improving process stability.
The project thus makes an important contribution to the sustainability strategy of the Pitten site while simultaneously supporting the continuous advancement of the production’s technical performance and energy efficiency.
This project was funded as part of the IBW/EFRE & JTF program. For more information on the program, visit www.efre.gv.at.
