10 Years of Energy for Sustainable Paper Production

In 2016, Hamburger Containerboard Dunaújváros took an important step towards more sustainable paper production: our power plant in Dunaújváros went into operation.

Today, it is a key part of our sustainability strategy – turning residual materials into valuable energy and supporting a more circular approach to production. ♻️

Over the past 10 years, the power plant has:

  • Increased the use of non-recyclable industrial waste (RDF) from 70,000 to more than 220,000 tonnes
  • Utilised production residues that would otherwise have gone to landfill
  • Generated green electricity from biogas produced during wastewater treatment
  • Produced enough biogas annually to heat around 5,000 households

And we’re not stopping here.
Our goal for the coming years is to further increase the share of non-recyclable residual materials in the fuel mix – with the long-term ambition of completely replacing fossil fuels.

10 years of experience. 10 years of energy. And a clear focus on a more circular and sustainable future.
